A friend of mine recently recommended MindMeister for creating mind maps. I decided to check it out to see if it would fit my needs.
Mind mapping is a visual way of thinking. It helps to order thoughts in a web style with easy flow of ideas. Read more about the concept of mind mapping. This style of thought organization, in my opinion, allows me to clearly state thoughts, take notes and brainstorm with clarity while using less paper. Traditional note taking is very linear and chronological. This can create a problem if a class or session jumps from idea to idea. Mind mapping allows for non-linear thought forming, more like how a brainstorming session would be conducted. I used this technique in several of my college courses to take notes. I had a very easy time recalling the concepts from class using these notes and had considerably less pages of notes to sift through.
MindMeister is a very useful tool to quickly and effortlessly create mind maps. I have used other software programs that really bog down the process with overcomplicated tools. This simple online tool allows you to share and collaborate with others on the web. I have pulled a list of features from MindMeister.com:
- Have unlimited mind maps
- Share and collaborate on maps
- Import maps from Freemind and MindManager™
- Export maps as image / PDF / RTF
- Publish maps to blogs and websites
- Export maps to FreeMind and MindManager™
- Add file attachments to topics
- Create and edit maps offline
- Full SSL encryption
- Search in maps
I recently began a mind map using this program for organizing the whole Worship Arts Ministry at my church. It has been very helpful in organizing my thoughts, the roles we need to fill and outlining the responsibilities of each role. I was having a difficult time trying to get my thoughts organized in a way others would understand. MindMeister has really helped me to do that. So check it out and maybe it will help you too.
