“Came To My Rescue” from Hillsong United is currently one of my favorite worship songs. It’s from the album United We Stand which came out in 2006. I was just listening to it again today and so I decided to share my thoughts. Practically, one of the things I look for in music for congregational singing is simplicity. In this song, the chords are simple but not boring. The lyrics are powerful but you don’t trip over them. When I listen I feel calm and tranquility rush over me. The music has a soothing feel and it invites me to sing along and let my guard down.
What I like most about “Came To My Rescue” is the lyrics. The whole song is about humility and homage. It is a cry from our soul that we should decrease and He should increase. In the verse we state our situation, how we come to God. We are drawing near to God’s throne, with our hearts completely bowed in reverence. Subsequently, we get a chance to proclaim truth, that when we seek God, He is there to be found. And finally, our heart’s cry, our response, is to express what our heart and soul is longing to say in His presence: In every area of my life, be the biggest. Let no problem, worry, care or situation ever eclipse your light in my life.
As He did for me, I hope that God can use this tune to help you draw closer to Him in worship.

Falling on my knees in worship
Giving all I am to seek Your face
Lord all I am is is Yours
My whole life
I place in Your hands
God of mercy
Humbled I bow down
In your presence at Your throne
I called, You answered
And You came to my rescue and I
Wanna be where You are
In my life be lifted high
In our world be lifted high
In our love be lifted high
